Next edition June 28th –July 4th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news some sunny mild weather during the past week has allowed the area to dry out some.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m.; Kongsvinger July 6th and 13th. No bible study on the 29th.
There will be a 4th of July celebration at Kongsvinger at 11 a.m.
Good Shepherd news: Adult Ed will resume on June 29th.

Trinity Lutheran Church- Cyrus is sponsoring a gospel message every Wed eve through Aug 27th with speakers from “Minn. Youth Alive” at the Venture Arts Center in Cyrus at 6:45 p.m.
St. John’s (Starbuck) Ice Cream Social will be held on June 29th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Menu is Pork on a Bun, Chips, Pie and Ice Cream. Tickets are available at the door.
New wine will have a homecoming concert at First Lutheran- Morris on June 29th at 7 p.m..
Community news: There will be A Post nuptial open house for David and Hannah (Hilton) Larson at Kong on June 29th from 2-4 p.m. They were married on June 7th at Kongsvinger. His parents are Corrine Larson and Larry Tuffton and the late Elroy Larson, grandmother is Bertha Larson
Former Donnelly area resident Veronica Smith passed away on June 20th local survivors include her daughter in law Marilyn Smith and her family. Mark and I attended her visitation at the funeral home on June 24th    and I attended her funeral at Assumption –Morris on June 25th
Former Donnelly area resident Selma Bruse passed away on June 24th her funeral is today (Saturday) at the Methodist church in Herman.
Haley Henrichs of Morris and Olivia Reimers of Donnelly were among the students named to the dean’s list at Ridgewater College for the spring semester
Senior Bryce Jergenson of Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta was named honorable mention to the West Central Tribune’s All-Area baseball team. He and Beth Holland have also been nominated for the West Central Tribune’s Hengstler-Ranweiler Award.
Agnes Searle was the recipient of a Stevens county “pay it forward” award recently
Bennett Smith informs me that he was one of the runners from the area that took part in the Grandma’s half marathon in Duluth last week. He finished 1953 out of 7299 runners.

The threshing bee royalty were part of the old settlers’ parade in Barrett on June 21st
In the past week I attended the Kiwanis talent show, visitation for Arlene Melchert at Zion-Morris, other old settler’s reunion events in Barrett as well as visiting some of the resident of the Barrett care center. Mark and I stopped into a rummage sale on 21st at his old house in Donnelly and met the new residents Sue Pester and her family; she said her husband works at westmor industries with Doug Cardwell.

donnelly news

Next edition June 21st-27th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: some very heavy rains over the weekend combined with some previous rains means that every low spot around here has standing water and more is predicated. It has been sunny and mild when it has not been raining. Crops look nice although some have drowned out. 
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June 22nd   not at St John’s as listed in the summer worship schedule and at St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m., no bible study on the 29th.
Good Shepherd news: Adult Ed will resume on June 29th.
There will be a Community Bible School on June 23rd-26th at Zion- Morris this year co-sponsored by Zion and Good Shepherd, with staff from Lutheran Bible Camp near Henning leading it. Everyone is welcome more info contact either church.
The all- state Lutheran choir will be on tour throughout MN through June 25th

Two upcoming bridal showers at Kongsvinger: for Laura Wolff bride to be of Brian Ennen will be held today (Saturday) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and a Post nuptial open house for David and Hannah (Hilton) Larson on June 29th from 2-4 p.m.   They were married on June 7th at Kongsvinger. His parents are Corrine Larson and Larry Tuffton and the late Elroy Larson, grandmother is Bertha Larson

Janice Kaehler of Morris passed away on June 12th. Her daughter Karen (Mark) Janachovsky and family are among the many family members in the Donnelly area who survive her, Jim and Lou Eystad and I were among those who attended her funeral at St John’s on June 16th.  My mom stayed with Janice’s grandparents when she taught in the dist. 7 school in the early ‘40’s.
The Tiger trapshooting team won the Novice Championship at the trap shooting contest in Alex recently Sam Henrichs was a member of that team finishing third individually in her division
Bryce and Brady Jergenson both pitched no hitters in baseball recently ,Bryce for the Morris legion team on June 10th and Brady for the VFW team on June 7th  .Many of you will remember that Bryce  also pitched a one hitter as a member of the Tiger bb team this spring.
Sydney Beyer, Maria Cin and Shadow Olson made the dean’s list at Minnesota State –Moorhead recently
The threshing bee royalty were part of the Chokio community picnic and Kensington runestone days' parades over the weekend. About a dozen of us attended the community mentoring meeting at the Morris area elementary school on June 12th. I also attended the acria (fed tel) supper and annual meeting at the school, the pioneer land band festival in Benson, other runestone days' events, the all-state Lutheran choir concert at living word Lutheran church-Alex and the funeral for Elmer Jessnes in Wendell.  As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, my Mom stayed with the Jessnes family when she taught out in the Swan Lake township area. Mark and I attended the neighborhood picnic at Faith Lutheran on June 17th. We both won a door prize there.

donnelly news

Next edition June 14th-20th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news; Mark and I want to wish our Dad’s a happy father’s day in Heaven.
Weather news: It has been sunny and mild most of the last week and most fields that can be planted are and most of the crop is up. However some heavy rains means that everything is very wet around here.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June  15th, 22nd and St John’s on June 29th at 9 a.m. no bible study on the 15th and 29th. Note that services on the 22nd will be at Kongsvinger not St John’s as announced earlier
Good Shepherd news: Tue a.m. bible study will resume on June 17th at 10 a.m.

There will be an open house baby shower honoring the soon to be son of Scott and Mindy (Janachovsky) Schmidt, from 10 a.m. to noon today, (Saturday), at the home of Mark and Karen Janachovsky, 15763 510th Ave, Donnelly.  Grandparents are Milford and Janice Kaehler.

Stevens’ community humane society annual meeting will be held on 6/14 at 7p.m. at the Morris senior center.
Donald Opp of Morris passed away on June 4th survivors include his sister former Donnelly area resident Norma Osterman
Cyrus Jon Reed was born on May 28 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Joshua and Jana Reed of Morris. Grandparents are Bob and Deb Danelz of Donnelly and Curtis and Patricia Reed of Moose Lake.

Shaylyn Johnson, Justine Huebner, Britany Cardwell, Mark Dunn and Beth Holland were some of the band students that were members of various groups that won awards at the large group festival held in Morris in March.
Sam Henrichs placed 3rd in her class in MN clay shooting championship in Alexandria
Becca Holland was named to the west central tribune all area team.
As delegates, Joan and Jerry Kopacek attended the VFW state convention in St. Cloud June 5-8. In route they stopped to visit Jerry’s cousin Marlene Meyer.
Our threshing bee royalty were part of the Cyrus Days parade on June 7th, after the parade I visited some with former Donnelly area resident David Jergenson. Mark & I attended the ice cream social in Donnelly and the famers’ market supper in Herman. After the social the community club had their monthly meeting as we continue making plans for the bee. In addition to the parade I also took in some other Cyrus Days activities over the weekend, and attended the Kiwanis talent contest at eastside park Ditto Hennen and her grandson preformed a piano duet in it.
Every so often I will stop into McCollar Jewelry for a visit with Wally he informs me that he is planning on having a 60th class reunion next year so if you are a member of the MHS class of ’55 or know somebody that is keep that in mind. He also informs me that he received a 20 gallon pin from the Red Cross not a 10 gal as I reported in an earlier column

donnelly news

Next edition June 7th-13th
Welcome another edition of the Donnelly news;
Weather news: It has been sunny and mild most of the last week; however some places (i.e. the Morris public library) received water damage due to some localized heavy rains over the weekend.  Crop progress ranges from untouched fields, to crops already being up.
In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on June 8th, 15th, 22nd at 9 am followed by Bible study during coffee hour afterwards.
Good Shepherd news: reminder that our services are at 9 am every Sunday followed by coffee fellowship. 
There will be a community Bible school on June 23rd-26th at Zion- Morris this year co-sponsored by Zion and Good Shepherd. Everyone is welcome more info contact either church

Community news: there will be an ice cream social on June 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Donnelly Hall sponsored by Donnelly Community Club, everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a free dish of ice cream.  Rendsville 4-H will be selling pies.  Community club meeting to follow about 8:30 pm
The next community mentoring program is June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Morris area elementary cafeteria.
Carter Fults is one of the beneficiaries of the Tuff luck fun run today (Saturday). “The Place to be” in Donnelly is one of the stops; the Headquarters for the event is the Herman Bar and Grill.  More info 287-0983 or 701-306-7183

Jenna Gibson graduated from Albany H.S. May 23rd .Her grandparents Dorothy and Sam Johrdhiem were among the family members that attended the event.

Pizza Ranch Tip Night to raise money in support of Alisha Gramith on June 8th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Alisha is a Pizza Ranch employee with serious medical issues and is the daughter of Ron and Sue Wevely of Donnelly and granddaughter of Liz Aschman.

There are several memorial scholarships given by people with Donnelly connections they are:
David Day scholarship winners were Chelsey Ehienger; Paige Leow
Thora (Larson) and William Colley memorial scholarship winners were Kjersa Anderson, Chelsey Ehienger, Paige Loew, and Chase Mohrman
Curtis Van Horn winner was Chelsey Ehleringer
Walker Ernest Koehl was born on May 15 at Stevens Community Medical Center, Morris, to Lucas and Tracy Koehl of Morris. Grandparents are Roy and Jenell Koehl of Morris and Charles and Deb Hacker of Hancock. Great grandparents are Alice Wulf of Lester, Iowa, Don and Janet Hacker of Hancock, and Wanda LeSage of Phoenix, Ariz. His great-great grandmother Millie LeSage was the first Donnelly news correspondent eons ago.
The tiger girls track team finished 7th at the section meet Beth Holland, Kourtney Geise, Rebecca and Savannah Aanerud all finished in the top 15 in their events either individually or as members of a relay team.  All Tiger sports teams are finished for the year it has been enjoyable covering them again this year.
